About This Site

Get Golf Back Pain Relief is written for weekend and league golfers whose lower back tightens up during or after a round. We test and write about the gear that helps us keep playing: lumbar support braces, foam rollers, back stretchers, heating pads and swing trainers that build a smoother, less strained motion. Everything here is first-hand experience from a regular golfer, not medical advice.

Back Health and Safety

Nothing on this site is medical advice, and the writers are golfers, not doctors or physical therapists. Lower back soreness after a round is common, but pain that is sharp, that shoots down a leg, that comes with numbness, tingling or weakness, or that follows a fall or a sudden twist needs a doctor before any brace, stretcher or exercise. The same goes for loss of bladder or bowel control, which is an emergency.

Heating pads can burn skin even on medium settings. Never sleep on one, never use one over numb skin or broken skin, and keep sessions to the time the manufacturer lists. People with diabetes, poor circulation or reduced sensation should ask their doctor first.

Back stretchers and foam rollers put real load on the spine. Start on the lowest setting for a minute or two, never roll directly on the spine itself, and stop if pain increases. Avoid them if you have osteoporosis, a recent fracture, spinal surgery or a known disc problem unless your doctor has cleared you.

A back brace is support for activity, not a cure. Wearing one constantly can let core muscles weaken, so use it for rounds and practice and keep up general strength work. Swing trainers should be used with slow, controlled reps at first, with plenty of space around you, and never swung near other people.
